Information for Canada/US Graduates and Undergraduates


  • All candidates must begin at Step 1 to pre-register with the College
  • Undergraduates proceed to Step 2
  • Canada/US graduates licensed in Canada proceed to Step 4
  • Canada/US graduates licensed outside of Canada proceed to Step 3
  • Graduates from a pharmacy degree program accredited by either the Canadian Council for Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) or the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)  who have not been licensed to practice in any jurisdiction proceed to Step 3

Step 1: Pre-Register with Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP)

A pre-registration number will be assigned to you upon processing of the following:

Step 2: Register as a Student

NOTE: To perform any of the “controlled acts” (duties) of the pharmacy profession in Ontario you must register as a pharmacy student. This registration must be confirmed by OCP before participating in clinical rotations or working as a pharmacy student.

To register as a pharmacy student, please submit: Students enrolled in an accredited pharmacy degree program in Canada or the United States are not required to complete a formal period of in-service training at the studentship level through OCP as this level of training occurs in the undergraduate curriculum.
NOTE: Note: You must notify OCP of any sites that you will be performing the controlled acts of the profession in a pharmacy.


Step 3: Register as an Intern

To register an intern-level training position (internship) in a community or hospital pharmacy, please submit: OCP will verify the following:
  • Your eligibility to register as an intern
  • The eligibility of your proposed preceptor (see SPT Preceptor Criteria)
  • The eligibility of your training site (see SPT Site Criteria)
Once OCP approves your eligibility to register as an intern, you will receive an email confirming your official internship start date and information on how to download your SPT internship manual and handbook.

If you are eligible to graduate or have graduated from an accredited pharmacy degree program in Canada or the United States (US) within the past two years and are not licensed in any other Canadian jurisdiction, you must successfully complete a minimum 12-week SPT internship while registered with OCP as an intern. Step 4 – Register as a Pharmacist

To be eligible to apply for a Certificate of Registration as a Pharmacist you must:
  • successfully complete a minimum of 12 weeks of SPT Internship and
  • pass the Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence Examination, and
  • pass the PEBC Qualifying Examination Parts I and II

NOTE: It is expected that you complete all of the requirements of licensure as a pharmacist within 2 years from the date of graduation and completion of SPT internship, otherwise a request must be made to the Panel of the Registration Committee.

Please allow one to two weeks for your application to be processed. A Client Services representative will notify you when you are licensed.
