SPT Program – Online Training Portal
As part of the College’s ongoing commitment to embrace technology and innovation, the College is now utilizing an online training portal as a documentation tool for the structured practical training (SPT) program for students and interns.
Past preceptors, students and interns have suggested moving from the paper-intensive program to a user-friendly, online format. This has become a reality where assessments and activities can be completed in real-time and are readily accessible by the student or intern, preceptor and the College.
The SPT program for pharmacy technicians has been piloted online over the past year and has been well-received by preceptors and applicants. In late March 2011, the College began a pilot of the new student and intern version and expects to move the program exclusively online by this fall.
Demo tutorial videos of the training portal are available to view from the perspectives of a preceptor as well as the preceptee:
Individuals beginning SPT on or after May 18 will be directed to complete their training using the portal. Once the studentship or internship application has been processed, both the preceptee and preceptor will receive an email indicating the start date of training and your login details.
It is important to ensure that there is access to the training portal from the practice site so that both the preceptee and the preceptor can complete and review the activities and assessments online.

If you are unable to access the training portal, contact your system administrator to add the training portal as a trusted link for your practice site.
Getting Started
It may take up to 2 business days for you to gain access to the training portal. In the meantime, the training can begin and you can begin to orient yourselves to the practice site.
Once you first gain access to the training portal, it is important for you to accept the training agreements, and the preceptee must complete the Pre-rotation assessment’ which will start the clock on the training. Due dates for the 4 weeks assessments are based on the pre-rotation assessment.
Familiarize yourselves with the different sections of the training portal. Be sure to review the ‘Notice Board’ which contains helpful pieces of information to guide you through the training. Registration advisors will post answers to common questions throughout the training and these will be available under ‘College News’. The ‘Resources’ section contains important documents which will play an integral part of your training.
It is expected that you will access the training portal on a regular basis to help you stay on track with the SPT program.
