Understanding the Costs and Timelines for Registration
The time and cost required to complete the registration process will vary from person to person for several reasons. The charts below shows the range of costs and time it may take to complete the registration process.


Pharmacy technician who is following the “in the profession” registration process:
Note: This stream is only open for individuals who have completed the CPhT exam or the PEBC Evaluating Exam by January 1, 2012.

PEBC Evaluating Exam
(2000 practice hours in the last 3 years, as a pharmacy assistant are required in order to take the exam.)
Application deadline is about 8 weeks before the exam. Acceptance to sit the exam is provided within 5-6 weeks which is 2-3 weeks before the examination date. Results are provided in about 3 weeks. The exam is held two times a year. Completion of the exam is required in order to take the Qualifying Exam. Results are provided in time to meet the deadline for application to take the next Qualifying Exam. $350
Language TestingTimelines vary by the testing agency. Application deadline usually one week before test date. Results are provided in 5 – 10 business days. Individuals who completed the OCP CPhT exam are not required to provide evidence of language fluency again. Individuals who attended 4 years high school in Canada do not need to complete language tests. See details on website. Range from $170 - $285 (depending on exam agency.)
Pre-Registration with OCPApplications are accepted at any time. Validation of pre-registration takes 5 – 10 business days. Individuals who completed the OCP CPhT exam are not required to pay the pre-registration fee again. $130
Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program - 4 courses (offered through CCAPP accredited Community Colleges) Application dates vary by College. Courses range from 33 – 45 hours each. 3 of the courses may be completed by Prior Learning Assessment (challenge exams) Fees vary by course format, length and College. Full courses range from

PLAR challenge exams range from $90 to $ 150
Structured Practical Evaluation Application accepted after validation of completing the Drug Distribution course. Validation of completion may take 5 – 10 business days. Evaluation requires a minimum of 10 days and should be completed within 3 months. Validation of completion takes 5 – 10 business days. $0
Jurisprudence ExamApplication deadline is the first of the month prior to the exam date (Jan 1, April 1, July 1, Oct 1)
Results are released 6 weeks after the exam.
May apply after all pre-registration documents validated (identity, PEBC evaluating exam, language fluency). Recommended after completing the Bridging Program. $200
PEBC Qualifying ExamApplication deadline is about 8 weeks before the exam. Acceptance to sit the exam is provided within 5-6 weeks which is 2-3 weeks before the examination date. Examination results are provided in about 8 - 12 weeks. $1275
Application for a certificate of Registration as a Pharmacy TechnicianApplication may be submitted when the registration requirements have been met. Validation of requirements takes 5 – 10 business days. $205
Annual Registration FeePaid at time of application for registration as a pharmacist. $400 or $200 after Sept.1 and before March 10
Professional Liability InsuranceMust be maintained annually. Range of fees depending on the insurance carrier ($125 - $600/year)
TotalsThe range will vary greatly depending on the schedule used to complete the Bridging Program. An individual who completes all 4 courses sequentially and all other requirements in the minimum time will require about 24 months to complete the process. Individuals who take courses consecutively and/or use the PLAR option may complete the process in 9 - 12 months. Individuals who completed the CPhT exam may reduce the time to complete the process by about 3 – 4 months as they do not need to complete the PEBC evaluating exam. $ 435 + plus annual fee

Or $305 + annual fee for anyone who completed the CPhT exam
$ 3025 + annual insurance fee if all requirements necessary, and all courses are taken.
$ 1875 + annual insurance fee if CPhT exam completed and PLA challenge exams used for Bridging completion.
